## Conservatories & room conversions we have installed

Overview

## Why choose conservatories & room conversions
A conservatory should be extra living space, not a room you shut the door on for nine months of the year. We build new conservatories and, just as often, convert existing ones, insulating the roof and upgrading the glazing so the space becomes genuinely usable.

New builds start with the base and structure and run through to the finished glazed structure, with frames in UPVC or aluminium to suit the property and the budget. Style, roof type, glazing specification and ventilation all get decided at survey against the elevation they are going on.

Conversions are for the very common situation where a conservatory built twenty years ago is now too hot in summer, too cold in winter and noisy in the rain. Insulating the roof, upgrading the glass and detailing the junctions properly transforms how the space behaves without demolishing what is already there.

### Who this is for

- Homeowners adding living space without a full extension
- Existing conservatories that are unusable in summer or winter
- Dining rooms, garden rooms, playrooms and home offices
- Properties where a lighter structure suits the garden elevation better
- Owners replacing a failing polycarbonate roof
- Anyone wanting more from a space they already paid for onceThe Adorn Range

The Adorn Range is our own product brand. It is the name you will see on your quotation and brochures, whether you are a homeowner or a trade customer having us supply and install. Each product in the range is built on a carefully chosen system, and we will talk you through the options when you enquire.

Why it matters

## What happens if it is left alone
An uninsulated conservatory is a heat trap in summer and a cold store in winter. Left as it is, the room stops being used, the furniture gets moved out, and a significant part of the house becomes storage.

Old polycarbonate roofs degrade. Panels discolour, seals perish, and leaks find their way down the glazing bars into the frames and eventually into the plaster on the house wall.

Poor junction detailing between a conservatory and the main house lets water track back into the building. That damage is hidden until it shows up as damp on the inside face of the house wall, by which point the repair is far larger.

### Common mistakes we are called in to fix

- Buying a new conservatory with the same roof specification that made the last one unusable.
- Adding blinds and a heater to treat the symptoms of a roof that needs insulating.
- Ignoring ventilation, so the room overheats even with good glazing.
- Leaving a leaking roof through a winter and turning a roof project into a plastering project.

Benefits

## What you can expect

### Year-round use
Insulated roofs and modern glazing even out the temperature swings that make old conservatories unusable.

### Quieter in rain
An insulated roof removes the drumming that makes a polycarbonate conservatory impossible to sit in during a downpour.

### Lower running costs
A room that holds its heat costs far less to keep warm than one that loses it straight through the roof.

### Keeps the light
Conversions can retain glazed panels or roof lights, so you gain comfort without turning the room dark.

### Faster than an extension
Converting an existing structure is less disruptive and less expensive than demolishing and building again.

### Guaranteed work
The installation carries our 10-year comprehensive insurance-backed guarantee like everything else we fit.

In detail

## Conservatories & room conversions: the detail

### New conservatories
We build conservatories in UPVC and aluminium, in the familiar styles: lean-to, Edwardian, Victorian and bespoke shapes to suit an awkward elevation. Aluminium suits contemporary designs and larger glazed spans; UPVC suits traditional styles and tighter budgets.

Specification decisions that actually matter are the roof type, the glass, the ventilation and the doors connecting the conservatory to the garden and to the house. We work through each of those at survey, because between them they decide whether the room is comfortable.

### Insulated conversions
A conversion keeps the existing base and frames where they are sound, and replaces or insulates the roof so the space performs like a room rather than a greenhouse. Glazing in the elevations can be upgraded at the same time, and roof lights can be retained so the room keeps its brightness.

We survey the existing structure first. The base, the frames and the wall junctions all have to be sound enough to carry and support the new roof, and we will tell you honestly if the existing structure is not up to it.

### Glass, ventilation and comfort
Solar control glazing makes a substantial difference on a south or west-facing conservatory, cutting the heat gain that drives summer temperatures up. Opening vents, roof vents and the right door configuration provide the cross-ventilation that glazing alone cannot.

Comfort in a glazed room is always a combination: the roof, the glass and the ventilation working together. Fixing one and ignoring the other two is why so many conservatories disappoint.

### What we will tell you honestly
Conservatories and room conversions sit on the boundary of building work, and there are situations where regulations, structure or drainage mean the answer is more involved than a glazing project. We will set out clearly what is and is not included in our quotation, and where you may need other trades, rather than discovering it halfway through.

Questions

## Frequently asked questions

### Can you convert my existing conservatory?
In most cases, yes. We survey the base, frames and wall junctions first to confirm the existing structure will carry an insulated roof, then quote for the conversion. If the structure is not sound enough, we will tell you rather than build on top of a problem.

### How much does a conservatory cost?
Size, style, material, roof specification and groundwork all move the figure, so we quote each project individually after a free survey rather than advertising a headline price.

### How long does a conservatory take to build?
It depends on the size and on how much groundwork is involved. We set out the expected programme in writing with your quotation so you know what to plan around.

### Will an insulated roof make the room dark?
Not if it is designed properly. Roof lights and retained glazed panels keep daylight coming in while the insulated sections deal with the heat and the noise.

### Do I need planning permission?
Many conservatories fall under permitted development, but it depends on the size, the position and the property, listed buildings and conservation areas in particular. We will flag anything that looks like it needs checking with your local authority.

### Can I have doors between the conservatory and the house?
Yes, and the choice matters. French, sliding or bi-fold doors at that junction affect how heat moves between the two spaces as well as how the rooms feel connected.

### What guarantee comes with a conservatory or conversion?
All of our installations carry a 10-year comprehensive insurance-backed guarantee underwritten through InstallSure. FENSA certification is provided for installations as applicable. Trade supply-only is not FENSA-certified.

### Is the survey really free?
Yes. The survey is free and carries no obligation. We measure, discuss the options and send a written quotation; if it is not for you, that is the end of it.

### Which areas do you cover?
We work from South Godstone across Surrey, Kent, East Sussex, West Sussex and South London, with Godstone, Redhill, Reigate, Sevenoaks and Guildford as our core territory. Our trade counter is open Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm.
